WiFi & Mobile Access
The need to have, or to get away from, WiFi and mobile phone (cell phone) access while on holiday causes many a lively discussion. In remote regional Australia, providing access can also be challenging. For those who need to stay connected, or simply enjoy it while traveling, here is a summary of WiFi and mobile access at Australia’s luxury lodges.

Mt Mulligan Lodge, Northern Outback Queensland, Queensland: Being a remote outback lodge, there is no mobile phone coverage at Mt Mulligan Lodge. WIFI and internet access is also extremely limited and cannot be guaranteed during your stay due to Government restrictions on satellite data usage and weather conditions.
Pretty Beach House, Sydney Surrounds, New South Wales: Complimentary WiFi access across the property as well as mobile coverage with most providers. There is also a guest laptop.
qualia, Hamilton Island, Queensland: Complimentary WiFi access across the property. There is good mobile phone coverage with Telstra, Optus and most other phone service providers.
Saffire Freycinet, Freycinet, Tasmania: Complimentary wired internet and WiFi access across the property. There is mobile phone coverage with Telstra being the most reliable. There is no Optus phone coverage. Coverage can be patchy with other phone service providers enroute to Saffire.
Sal Salis, Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia: There is no mobile coverage or internet access available at Sal Salis. Telstra is the only mobile service provider in the area and once you leave town you will have intermittent reception for a short while before losing it completely. In the case of an emergency, family or friends will be able to contact you on the Sal Salis telephone number +61 (0)8 9949 4173. Please note that this phone is not attended 24 hours.
Silky Oaks Lodge, The Daintree, Queensland: Has excellent Wi-Fi and mobile phone reception. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in and around the main lodge.

True North (North Star Cruises), The Kimberley, Northern Territory: There is internet access, and Wifi coverage throughout the ship. However as this is accessed via ship’s satellite – which is quite a bit more complicated than accessing a satellite from a land based or stationary position – there is a nominal charge for use. Mobile phone coverage depends on where the ship is, but in remote areas, is very limited.
